Congressman John Rose, who represents Tennessee’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on November 19, 2025, regarding a controversial Senate provision related to an ongoing lawsuit and payments to senators.
In his first post at 17:40 UTC, Rose stated, “Today, the House will vote on striking a provision that guarantees these Senators $500,000 per violation if the DOJ settles their Arctic Frost lawsuit.
A reminder that the American people didn’t spy on these ten senators, Biden’s DOJ did. And I’m not about to let Tennesseans,” referencing a funding bill provision tied to Department of Justice settlements and alleged surveillance involving ten senators.
Later that day at 18:00 UTC, Rose criticized both Senate leadership and the legislative process by writing, “Not only was it disrespectful to Speaker Johnson and House Republicans to slip the Senate’s $500,000 payout into a funding bill at the last minute, but now Leader Thune is mocking House Republicans and doubling down on this corrupt provision.
@LeaderJohnThune is playing House”. This statement addressed concerns over transparency and accused Senator John Thune of supporting what he described as a “corrupt provision.”
At 19:03 UTC on November 19, Rose announced further action: “BREAKING: I have filed a resolution authorizing @SpeakerJohnson to bring the Senate payday provision before the courts and challenge it as blatantly unconstitutional—if @LeaderJohnThune fails to take up the House bill that REPEALS this provision.
The Senate’s provision amounts”. Here he outlined his intention for legal recourse should legislative negotiations fail.
Rose has served in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Diane Black. He was born in Cookeville, Tennessee in 1965 and continues to reside there. His educational background includes a BS from Tennessee Technological University (1988) and a JD from Vanderbilt University (1993).
