FOIA Request to Welch College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, NE Nashville News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Welch College. The request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that reveal the number of current students who are Chinese Nationals, including a breakdown by department. Additionally, we are seeking information about scholarships awarded to these students, detailing the amount and source of each scholarship. We have also asked for identification of any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our request includes a call for any policies or procedures that describe how Welch College monitors its students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to protect the university’s intellectual property and other confidential information.

This inquiry is conducted in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency within governmental institutions. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we emphasize that access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency.

We believe this request will shed light on important aspects of student demographics and institutional policies at Welch College.
