Sumner County Emergency Preparedness Month

4239e

Are you prepared?  Every U.S. state is at risk of experiencing disasters, and Sumner County is no exception. Floods, tornados, extreme heat and cold, and thunderstorms, are just some of what you may experience in this county. It is important to be prepared for these situations by having an emergency plan and supplies at the ready once a disaster occurs.

April is historically the peak season to experience tornados, which is why the Sumner County Health Committee has partnered with Ace Hardware in Gallatin, Hendersonville, and Portland, to provide information and supplies needed to prepare for disasters. Each store has created special sections with basic emergency supplies to purchase, as well as a free information sheet from FEMA @ ready.gov with a checklist of what you should have on hand for emergency situations.

“The three locations have graciously partnered with the Sumner County Health Committee to assist in preparing our communities for any disaster threat that may strike” states Ashley Berry, Chairperson of Sumner County Health Committee.

In addition, the Health Committee will be holding a virtual raffle.  Register to win a free backpack with some basic emergency supplies. You can submit your entry online at www.healthysumner.com, however, you must be a resident of Sumner County to enter. The raffle will be open from April 8- 15. Winners will be determined and contacted via email or phone number.

Be sure to return to healthysumner.com throughout the month of April and check out the blog, which will feature articles and downloadable resources related to disaster preparedness. Stay safe, Sumner County!
