Fifty-four students have graduated from the Adult Education High School Equivalency program at Volunteer State Community College. The program held a graduation ceremony recently at the Vol State campus to celebrate.

Nicholas Bishop, Esq., Vice President for Economic and Community Development at Volunteer State Community College, was the guest speaker. Graduate Brandon Dees (pictured above) was the Class Valedictorian. Both individuals addressed those in attendance during the evening commencement program on June 23rd.

The Adult Education Program at Volunteer State offers free classes to prepare you for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET). Instruction focuses on the necessary knowledge and skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies to pass the HiSET exam. Also available are English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to assist individuals with improving their English language skills.

“This program year, we had over 300 students in our program. Of those students, 102 have graduated and 41 have made significant level gains. We had 55 of our students enrolled in our ESL program,” said Kathy Breeding, Adult Education Program Coordinator at Vol State.

Vol State hosts Sumner County high school equivalency classes at the Gallatin campus. Classes are also offered throughout Sumner County. They include day, evening, and virtual options.
