Volunteer State Community College Offers Free Google Professional Certification

Volunteer State Community College’s Division of Workforce Development has partnered with Google to provide online training to become a Google Data Analytics Professional at no cost to the student. Students will not need a degree or previous experience to participate.

This online training was developed and taught by Google employees, and is hands-on, practical, and rigorous. By averaging 10 hours per week, the student can complete the certificate in six months or less and have the in-demand skills the companies are looking for.  Students will be able to train at their own pace online. Training includes an immersive understanding of practices and processes for data analysts, learning key analytical skills, how to clean and organize data and complete analysis and calculations using spreadsheets, SQL, and R programming and how to visualize and present data findings.

Private companies across all industries, as well as public-sector organizations, have a great need for data analysts with 380,000 U.S. job openings in data analytics with a $74,000 median entry-level salary. [US Burning Glass Labor Insight Report for 4/01/2021 - 3/31/22] The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the demand for Data Analytics will grow by 25 percent between now and 2029, which is faster than the average for all occupations.

Technological advancements over the last decade made it possible to have all of the data imaginable at our fingertips, now the goal is to figure out how to use data to our advantage. Understanding data and understanding how to apply the data can help organizations become more efficient, more profitable, and solve a wide array of problems across industries, it also gives us the ability to make technological, scientific, and medical advances.
