Lemoyne-Owen College Dr. Rochelle Stevens Makes Coaching Debut In Germantown

The LeMoyne-Owen College women's cross country team competed in the City Auto Twilight Memphis XC meet last night at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Germantown, Tennessee.

The meet was the coaching debut of olympic gold medalist Dr. Rochelle Stevens. Stevens was named head coach last September.

Thousands of fans and participants packed the complex, about thirty minutes before the women's team was set to compete, the meet was delayed due to the weather.

At about 9:50 pm the Lady Magicians started the race. Rain was a constant factor throughout the meet.

Freshman Ajaceia Presswood finished 109th (26.30.78) and was the first LeMoyne runner to cross the finish line. Shortly after, freshman Lela Singleton would dash across the finish line at 30.20.3 (115th). Freshmen Rionna Johnson (117th),Ti'Yanna Cage (118th) and Malaisha Johnson (119th) also  made their college cross country debuts for the Lady Magicians.

Of the five freshman who participated in the meet, none of them ran cross country in high school. Although they weren't on their high school cross country teams , they thought joining in college would be a great way to get them ready for track and field season.

The next meet for the Lady Magicians will be September 10th at Central Arkansas. The meet will begin at 9:00am.
