On Sunday 11/27/22 about 1pm, an off duty Deputy went to a local market. There, a man was soliciting $18 dollars. He said he was from out of town visiting his father and his car broke down. Suspicious of the man's story, the off duty Deputy notifed an on duty Deputy to investigate. During the investigation, it was found the man lied about his name and his car breaking down. He actually lived nearby. The man was given a written warning. He left the market property. We urge everyone to be alert to scams and suspects attempting to commit theft by deception. When anyone encounters a similar situation, call the Sheriff's Office. If they are in need, we will work to assist them. If they are lying, we will address that as well.
