Cumberland volleyball’s Hazel Konkel has been named to the 2022 NAIA AVCA All-Region team, announced by the NAIA selection committee on Friday.
Each of the 10 regions named 14 student-athletes to the All-Region team, and eight players earned honorable mention honors. Each region also selected seven “of the year” award winners.
The DuBois, Ill. native has been selected as a first team member of the Southeast Region following a successful first year with the Phoenix.
Konkel- who was named the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year- was a consistent factor in the team’s success this season. She picked up a total of 274 kills on a fantastic .428 attack percentage while also leading the team in blocks with 109.
Five other Mid-South players join Konkel on the all region team, including Juliet Banks and Allyson Grava (Cumberlands), Sam McClanahan (Thomas More), Hannah McGowan (Bethel), and MSC Player of the Year, Molly Shannon (Campbellsville).
Konkel was one of two CU players to pick up MSC Player of the Week recognition this season and was named a MSC First-Team member.
